s and supplementary: http:/eclectic.ss.uci.edu/~drwhite/links2pdf.htm Practicum http://eclectic.ss.uci.edu/~drwhite/pub/Ethno-Sociology-Practicum.pdf George Marshall (1947) spoke of the enormous complexity facing the postwar era that made it “exceedingly difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisal of the situation.” Bill Gates, echoing Marshall in a Harvard address (2007) sixty years later, “thought about how a host of technological” advances have helped erase those complexities.” “The internet for instance, allows the best minds in an area to work together on common problems in ways they couldn’t do before” (WSJ 6-8-07). Gates, however, has it wrong. Selection of the best minds in an area to work with common technology to solve problems has not made complexity more comprehensible, and the problems created are often worse than those solved. What Gates does not understand is that it is diverse minds working at different scales and different speeds on different platforms that need to be understood and nurtured, through understanding and nurturing of layer-embedded networks, which are not a reduction of complexity to simplicity but a much more profound and realistic appraisal of the human situation in all its manifest conditions and historicities. ............ -Doug White COMPARATIVE: interdependence, autocorrelation, regionality, complex temporal interaction 1968 Societal Research Archives System: Retrieval, Quality Control and Analysis of Comparative Data. Unlike discovery of simple interactive principles that generate complex emergent behavior (e.g., agent-based modeling, selforganized criticality), networks of interaction in the multi-layer approach occur between elements with internal processing and time-delayed responses, such as humans with biosocial and cogni-cultural reactivities. In several of these studies, response times are at generational time-scales. LEN models allow multiple levels of embedding, with some interactions occurring at faster time scales and others that affect them occurring at successively slower scales. The principles here may be simple, but how these levels interact requires a very delicate and new understanding of layering and feedback. 1971 Natchez Class and Rank Reconsidered. An ethnographic study of information needs and practices of nomadic people of Babadi Clan of Bakhtiari tribe

Background and aim: the aim was to study information needs and practices of nomadic people of Babadi clan of Bakhtiari tribe. Methods: the study uses ethnography as method and uses observation and semi-structured interview as data collection techniques. Results: life style increasingly influences and directs the way nomadic people look for information. They prefer informal information resource...

An Analysis of Factors Influencing the Social Entrepreneurial Intention in Rural and Nomad Women's Micro-credit Funds

Despite the important role that rural and nomad women play in developing countries, their significant contributions are generally neglected and then they have been deprived of rural development programs. Women have always been a vulnerable group of society that are invisibly trapped in deprivation and powerlessness. Social entrepreneurship as an axis of development can be considered as an ...

Evaluation of Nonlinear Height-Diameter Models of Two Important Species of Turkish Pine (Pinus brutia) and Mediterranean Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens var. horizontalis), in the Planted Forests

Knowledge about the relationship between tree height (H) and diameter at breast height (D) is crucial for forest planning, monitoring, biomass estimation, and forest stands dynamics description. In this study, 20 different height-diameter models were evaluated to estimate accurately the height of the trees of Pinus brutia and Cupressus sempervirens var. horizontalis species in Arabdagh region (...

Efficiency evaluation of wheat farming: a network data envelopment analysis approach

Traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models deal with measurement of relative efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) in which multiple-inputs consumed to produce multiple-outputs. One of the drawbacks of these models is neglecting internal processes of each system, which may have intermediate products and/or independent inputs and/or outputs. In this paper some methods which are usab...

Allocation efficiency in network DEA

The present study is an attempt towards remodeling cost, revenue and profit relationship within the network process. The previous models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) have been too general in their scope and focused on the input and the output within a black box system, therefore they have not been able to measure various phases simultaneously within a network system. By using these mod...
